Through her influence, the Heroes' Guild became a degenerate house of greedy mercenaries and Nostro's influence waned. Scythe, refusing to aid his former pupil after bearing witness to his fall, nevertheless forgave him and stood vigil at his side after he was poisoned by an assassin, staying with him until he died at the first light of the sun.

With Nostro's death, Scythe disappeared into obscurity once more. Long after Nostro's death, the Heroes' Guild eventually established a new regime that only allowed quest cards that were strictly law-abiding and virtuous.

However, Weaver, Maze, and many other guild members at the time led a revolution against this policy to allow heroes to choose their destiny. After much bloodshed, the rebellion finally succeeded, and the civil war came to an end. Scythe reappeared and proposed Weaver as the new Guildmaster , seeing in him the serene and impartial man he would become. Scythe makes his first appearance in the Fable The Lost Chapters.
